I spent decades of my life feeling that there must be more to “the Jesus story” and the ancient teachings than what religion was able to reveal to me. In the summer of 1979, when I was just seven years old, I was confused by the fact that different versions of the bible often had dramatically different translations and meanings of the teachings attributed to Jesus. Yet I was told that it was "The Inerrant Word of God”. I knew that I needed to find answers to how these bibles could be so different.

I asked my grandmother, a pillar in our Methodist church. I asked all of my Sunday school and vacation bible school teachers. I asked my minister. But no one could answer my questions about Jesus and the bible with anything other than stale theology and memorized bible verses from their preferred version of “The Word”. I felt so confused and alone. I felt like I couldn’t “get” what everyone else around me appeared to be so content with.

Despite my ravenous appetite for anything related to a deeper understanding of the “real” Jesus, these unanswered questions gnawed away at me for over fifteen years. In my early twenties, still on my quest, I knew I had to find answers to the questions that no one in my life could answer. That is when I took a profound leap of faith and did what I was explicitly warned NOT to do. I dove headfirst into the life and teachings of Jesus OUTSIDE of modern religious and theological channels.

I soon encountered the ancient teachings of Jesus (Yeshua) in His native language of Aramaic. At first, I was puzzled, because every book I had read by mainstream biblical scholars said that ALL the original texts of the New Testament were written and sourced in ancient Koine Greek. I soon learned that zero of those supposed original texts exist today. ZERO. Up to that moment, I hadn’t even thought about the fact that English didn’t even exist in His time.

All of a sudden, my entire world literally turned inside out! I had stumbled upon a recording of the ancient Aramaic “Lord’s” Prayer of Jesus. As soon as I heard it, my head started spinning and I lost all sense of where I was and what was happening. Every single hair on my body stood straight. Something about the sound of the prayer felt so achingly intimate and familiar to me, though I had never heard it before in my life. Or had I? I felt like I knew exactly what each vibration within the prayer meant, though in truth I had no earthly idea about any of it. It resonated so deeply within my body and soul.

I spent the next hour trying to speak the first few lines of the Aramaic prayer, but I kept coming back to that first word, continuing to almost sing that sound over and over. I stopped the cassette tape and sat on the floor, my mind still reeling. I sat in silence as the trailing after-effect of the tones continued echoing throughout my body, acutely aware of the rise and fall of each breath. I felt keenly aware that I was not breathing, but that I was "being breathed". It was as if I was inhaling the entire universe into my lungs and exhaling spiral clusters of sparkling stars out of my mouth into the room around me.

I felt Jesus alive within me – not in man-made translations and theology – but in pure frequency and vibration. I knew that my life would never be the same. When I later learned that intoning and sacred chanting was a core practice within the original ancient Semitic Aramaic and Hebraic churches thousands of years ago [and still to this day!], I immediately knew that this is exactly why I am here on earth – to tell the world about THIS!
